Technology in the Classroom
For this assignment looking at the technology used within classrooms, I chose to interview Claire Grant, a fourth grade teacher at Andrews Elementary. Claire uses technology daily. She uses laptops and iPads with her students to not only introduce new concepts but also for remediation and for STEM projects. During part of their Daily 3 Math time, she uses Accelerated Math with her students. Students have the option to complete the assignments online or with paper/pencil and scan it in to correct it. She uses her Promethean board, ActiVotes, and ActivExpressions as ways to informally check for understanding as well as for assessments. Her class uses their document camera not only for showing student written work but for showing examples of specimens that they have found or other examples of student projects. Students use the cameras on the iPads to snap pictures of their projects and to document work done on dry erase boards. Examples of software that she uses regularly are: ActivInspire, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Accelerated Math, RAZ Kids, MobyMax, and various iPad apps. She has found the use of laptops, iPads, and ActivExpressions to be most effective in her classroom. For her interview, she was asked to introduce herself, what types of hardware and software that she uses the most and which she sees as most effective. |
