Screencast: MobyMax Login
This screencast is a tutorial for my special education students to use when they need to login to MobyMax.com which is frequently used for remediation and skill practice. It will be placed on our shared drive that all students can access as well as my school website for access at home. I used the multimedia principle in that my students learn better from words and pictures rather than from words alone, the coherence principle in that extraneous words, backgrounds and sounds were excluded to prevent distraction, the signaling principle in that mouse clicks where highlighted and used a larger arrow, and the modality principle in that my students learn better from graphics and narrations rather than from animation and on-screen text which they struggle reading. |

PowToon: Polygons
As a special education teacher, I may use some lessons with one grade level as an introduction and for review or reteaching with other grade levels. For the past two years, once state assessments began and my students checked out afterwards, it became evident to me that I needed to change my instruction of the geometry curriculum because it seemed that I rushed through it rather than giving it the attention it needed. I plan to change my instruction of geometry this year by incorporating weekly videos and podcasts beginning at the start of the year so that while we may be working on multiplication or division during whole and small group instruction, my students will also be working on geometry during their independent time. For this reason, I chose to create a PowToon on polygons. This will be placed on our school’s shared drive, my teacher webpage and in my Google Classroom and will be used with students in grades 2-5. I chose to use graphics and narration rather than including a multitude of text also in order to adhere to the redundancy principle. The multimedia principle was used in that I did not use words alone but included graphics in order to help my students understand the concept better. The modality principle was used in that I chose to use minimal printed text and to rely more on narration. This is the preferred mode of learning for most of my students due to their below grade level reading levels. The coherence principal was used in that I tried to keep my PowToon uncluttered, and only use material that supported my instructional goal. |

Video Learning Object: Classifying Polygons
As a special education teacher, I may use some lessons with one grade level as an introduction and for review or reteaching with other grade levels. I plan to change my instruction of geometry this year by incorporating weekly videos and podcasts beginning at the start of the year so that while we may be working on multiplication or division during whole and small group instruction, my students will also be working on geometry during their independent time. The video I created is the follow up lesson to the PowToon from a previous lesson. The coherence principal was used in that I tried to keep my slides uncluttered, and only use material that supported my instructional goal. The personalization principle was used in that I used an informal, friendly tone while presenting the information. When considering the CRAP visual design elements, to adhere to the contrast principle, I used shapes that were different in angle measure rather than just in the length of the sides. The repetition and alignment principles were adhered to in that the transitions, background, color and font were the same on all slides and that the placement of the text and location of the polygons and reminders were the same from slide to slide. The location of the talking head was placed in the same location and used the same fade in/out. The proximity principle was adhered to in that all the shapes were placed grouped together rather than place sporadically around the slide. |
